Practical PDF tasks
Crop wide white margins from a scanned PDF without clipping the stamp
Use a six-page scan to detect margins, keep a safety margin, and understand why cropping is not redaction.
A six-page scan looks tiny in a presentation because the content sits inside a broad white border. Cropping can make it easier to read, but an automatic crop can also hide the small date, stamp or handwriting at the edge. Find the outermost useful content before tightening the page.
Do not treat page 1 as the whole document
Open Crop PDF & Remove White Margins and inspect all six thumbnails. Page 1 may contain only body text, while page 4 has a signature at the lower left and page 6 carries a reference number near the edge. Applying page 1's crop to every page could hide both.
Keep a copy of the original. Note which pages share a layout and which have tables, comments or pale stamps. A shared crop can work for consistent pages; unusual pages need separate attention.
Use auto-detection as a starting point
Run automatic margin detection on a representative page first. The tool lets you adjust sensitivity and a safety margin. Leave room around the outermost content rather than placing the crop box directly against a letter. Inspect all four edges in the preview: are the heading, page number, handwriting and faint table rules still visible? Light marks are particularly easy to mistake for background.
When the test page looks right, apply the settings to selected pages or all pages. If one page differs, use the manual crop box or margin values for that page. Making every page appear the same size is not a good reason to hide useful content.
Check the exported PDF
Open the download in another PDF reader and flip through all six pages. Pay special attention to the signature on page 4 and reference on page 6. Leave enough edge space if the file will be printed. A before-and-after comparison is more reliable than a quick glance at thumbnails.
This tool changes the PDF's visible area, or CropBox. Content outside that area may still remain inside the file. Cropping is not permanent removal and must not be used to conceal names, amounts or other sensitive data. Use a proper redaction workflow for that and verify its result. Cropping also cannot sharpen a blurry source scan.
