Calendar difference shows years, months, and days (e.g., 2 years 3 months 12 days). Total days is the actual count of calendar days between dates (e.g., 833 days). These are different ways of expressing the same time span.

Inclusive vs Exclusive Counting

Standard counting excludes the end date: Jan 1 to Jan 2 = 1 day. Inclusive counting includes both dates: Jan 1 to Jan 2 = 2 days. Choose based on your needs.

How Workdays Are Calculated

Workdays are calculated using an efficient algorithm that counts complete weeks first, then handles remaining days. This ensures fast calculation even for date ranges spanning hundreds of years.

Handling Holidays

This tool does not automatically include public holidays as they vary by country and region. You can add custom holidays to exclude them from workday calculations.

Leap Year Impact

Leap years affect date calculations. A leap year has 366 days instead of 365. When calculating across February 29, the extra day is properly accounted for.

Month-End Date Handling

When the target month doesn't have the same day (e.g., Jan 31 to Feb), the calculation uses the last valid day of the target month. For example, Jan 31 + 1 month = Feb 28 (or Feb 29 in leap years).

Why Not Use Millisecond Subtraction?

JavaScript's Date objects can produce incorrect results due to timezone differences, daylight saving time transitions, and browser inconsistencies. Our date-only model avoids these issues entirely.
