Calculation Rules

Chinese Characters

Counted by effective Chinese characters (CJK Unified Ideographs).

English Words

Counted by space-separated words containing letters.

Numbers

Consecutive digits are counted as one word.

Punctuation

Not counted in reading units, but included in total character count.

Mixed Content

Chinese and English are calculated separately and then added together.

Paragraphs

Separated by one or more blank lines.

Sentences

Separated by sentence-ending punctuation (. ! ? etc).

How is reading time calculated?+
Reading time = Chinese characters ÷ Chinese speed + English words ÷ English speed. Default speeds are 300 chars/min for Chinese and 200 words/min for English.
